Elowen Hart is a violinist from Painswick, in the Cotswolds — a recitalist and concerto soloist known for unhurried programmes, and for the Marchmont Edition, her slow republication of the violin music of Sylvia Marchmont (1889–1966), played back into repertoire one sonata at a time.

Marchmont: The Violin Sonatas

Harewell Records, April 2025

Elowen Hart, violin

Deniz Aral, piano

All three sonatas, recorded in the church at Painswick over a week of early mornings — first recordings throughout, from Elowen's own edition of the manuscripts. The record the archive folder was always heading towards.

Recording of the Month — The Long Interval

“Hart plays Marchmont the way you hope an editor would: as an advocate who has stopped needing to advocate, because the music is simply there, and simply very good.” ★★★★★

Blue Hour

Harewell Records, October 2023

Elowen Hart, violin

Solo violin for the end of the day: the Bach D minor Partita beside Marchmont's Four Postcards and a handful of folk tunes from the Welsh border, recorded at dusk with the church door open.

“Blue Hour is that rare solo record that treats the listener as company rather than audience.” ★★★★
